Electricity Cost Savings using the Bri-Mod RD1 Dimmer Switch

The Bri-Mod RD1 Dimmer Switch module actually helps you save money and reduce your carbon footprint!

For example, if the Bri-Mod RD1 was used for 6 hours every day of the year to dim a 300W lamp or load to half power (i.e. the lamp is now only running at 150W) and say the cost of electricity is 15p per KWh, it would result in electricity savings of around £50 per annum.

Calculation

300W-150W = 150W of power saved

150W saved = 0.15KW

If used for 6 hours per day every day of the year = 6 hours x 365 = 2190 hours of use per year

2190 hours x 0.15KW = 328.5KWh per annum

Say, on average, the cost of electricity is 15 pence per KWh or £0.15 per KWh

Therefore 328.5KWh x £0.15 per KWh = £49.28 savings per annum.

Another cost saving is the fact that the Bri-Mod RD1 incorporates a “soft-start” feature which is very gentle to the filament of the bulb, resulting in a considerable longevity of the lamp, up to twice it’s normal rated lifetime. This means that you are able to save the cost of the lamp, the time, cost and effort of re-lamping and also you are reducing the amount of waste going to landfill or recycling.

It should be noted that further lamp cost savings are to be made through the action of dimming. Dimming lamps considerably extends bulb life (In fact dimming an incandescent lamp by 40% will typically result in the bulb lasting more than 10 years!) The benefits here are that there will be fewer re-lamping operations required (again giving material and time cost savings) and less waste is generated resulting in a positive environmental impact.
