11) Q Why won’t my Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module respond to the remote control?
12) Q The lights seem to be less bright when on full brightness.
13 Q The Bri-Mod RD1 outdoor dimmer switch keeps turning itself off.
1) Q Does the Bri-Mod RD1 intelligent outdoor IR remote controlled dimmer switch kit come with a remote control handset?
A No, but since any standard IR remote control handset may be used to control the dimmer module, and it only uses one button on the handset per module, you may already have one available to use. A long range IR Bri-Luxe handset (IR-DX1)may be purchased separately if required.
2) Q Does the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module contain a light as well as the remote controlled dimmer switch circuitry?
A The Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module contains no internal lamps, it is connected by a suitable cable to an incandescent lamp which it can remotely control once programmed to do so.
3) Q How do you re-program the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module once it has been installed in a place out of reach?
A The only way to re-program the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch is to safely get within reach of the module with the supplied programming wand and follow the programming instructions. For first time programming it may be prudent to ask the electrician who is installing the module to perform the programming function for you.
4) Q My home Infrared (IR) remote control handset does not give me enough range to operate the Bri-Luxe dimmer module what can I do?
A long range IR Bri-Luxe handset (IR-DX1) may be purchased separately which will give approximately 20-25 metres range in dark, dry conditions outdoors.
5) Q Do I need to switch off the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module during the day?
A We recommend that the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module is switched off during the day to keep the internal temperature inside the module to a minimum and also to save energy! If the internal temperature exceeds a pre-set level, the module will automatically shut itself down and will need to be reset manually – for further information please refer to the Programming & Operating Guide included with each kit.
6) Q Will the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch work during the bright daylight hours?
A Due the fact the sun emits a lot of infrared radiation, it “blocks” the relatively weak IR emissions coming from the IR remote control handset, so control of the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch by the handset may be difficult or impossible on a sunny or bright day.
7) Q Is it important to mount the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module out of direct sunlight?
A Yes, keeping direct sunlight off the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module keeps its internal temperature lower which helps maintain high reliability.
8) Q What outdoor temperature range can I operate my Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module?
A We specify the operating ambient temperature range as -20 deg C to +40 deg C.
9) Q Should I be concerned if the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module is very warm during use?
The Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module will become warm during use. The more lights the dimmer switch module is controlling, the warmer it will become.
On its maximum load the dimmer switch module can become very warm. As long as you have not overloaded the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module, this is no cause for alarm. If the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module becomes overloaded it will turn the lights down or off.
10) Q What happens if I have a power cut?
If for any reason the power is lost to the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module, it will remember the button you have programmed it to respond to as well as the last light level setting.
11) Q Why won’t my Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module respond to the remote control?
Check batteries are not flat and are connected properly to the contacts in the casing. Make sure you point the remote control in the direction of the green "Bri-Luxe" logo on the module housing and that there is nothing in the way to block the signal. Move closer to the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module.
12) Q The lights seem to be less bright when on full brightness.
If the lights are drawing too much current the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch will attempt to handle this overload by reducing the brightness of the lamps. This can occur when certain types of bulb age.
13) Q The dimmer module keeps turning itself off.
(a) The Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch may be doing this because it is grossly overloaded. Use lower wattage bulbs or dimmable electronic transformers to reduce the load. Otherwise use the Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module elsewhere on a suitable load.
(b) The Bri-Mod RD1 dimmer switch module will also turn off if you are trying to control an unsuitable inductive load (such as a wire-wound or toroidal transformer). In this case change the load to a dimmable electronic transformer. If the Bri-Mod RD1 module is still “blocked” disconnect it from and then reconnect to the mains electricity supply.
